An excellent article about the Brazilian Biofuel industry. They are far ahead of almost all countries with the production of biofuel from sugar as opposed to our idiotic pursuit using corn. They produce close to 4.7 billion gallons a year and are looking for the US as a market to supply. Of course, our policies restrict this. The ‘not invented here’ and the ‘protect the family farmer’ mentality in congress, along with President Bush have imposed a 54 cent per gallon tariff on this more efficient biofuel. How much have food prices gone up because of the use of corn in ethanol anyway? Another stupid policy.
Let the market work. At least American companies are investing and learning in this technology, despite our government’s position.
